Abstract
Quality Improvement (QI) projects aim to enhance specific clinical care processes, patient safety, and healthcare operations. This QI project aims to examine the impact of improved education on medication administration safety and to observe the differences in Blue Sight data reports and medication administration discrepancies in a post-surgical setting. To limit medication errors (ME) and administration discrepancies (Bluesight reports) in acute care settings and reduce potential patient harm, healthcare professionals must review the fundamentals of medication safety, including the five-rights of medication administration. This simple step will ultimately lead to shorter hospital stays, less financial strain for patients and hospital systems, and, most importantly, improved patient outcomes.
