Newton Kansas - Harvey County incorporated in 1871. Formerly part of Sedgwick County. Located on the banks of Sand Creek. Water was important. Railroad came in 1871. Mennonites coming with turkey red wheat from Russia. Made Kansas the breadbasket of America. Grass-hopper (sic) plague just prior.
