Description
This color photograph, taken in the early 2000s, shows iron crosses standing in the cemetery of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church located in Munjor, Kansas. The sky is clear and blue. Headstones and gravemarkers line the green grass in neat rows. The monuments include stone and ornate metal crosses, some aged and weathered. A large wooden crucifix stands in the background on a limestone base. Beyond the cemetery, houses and green trees line the background. A limestone church stands in the back right with a tall steeple. A tall, cylindrical water tower stands in the back left next to few small sheds. Telephone poles line the road between the cemetery and the water tower. The headstones and gravemarkers in the foreground are older and smaller than the newer granite headstones farther back. Iron crosses were created by the local blacksmith to use as gravesite markers in the cemeteries. This group of iron crosses is in the St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery located southwest of Munjor.
