Description
This photograph, taken in the 1930s on what is now Park Street, contains nearly thirty male students standing in the unpaved roadway. Two halfway-formed lines of students in a gauntlet face each other. Some men are walking away from the camera. One man holds his belt up over his head with two hands, two men hold belts at their sides, and another man in the lower right is removing his belt. None of the students are looking at each other. All the men wear pants. Some wear short-sleeved shirts, some wear long-sleeved shirts with rolled-up sleeves, and some wear jackets. On the left, a motorcycle’s back wheel and a pickup truck’s bed are visible. Behind the vehicles, a tree-lined sidewalk stretches into the distance. The campus lawn extends beyond the sidewalk, and bushes are visible behind the tree line. A small building, surrounded by trees, sits in the top right of the photo.
