Abstract
The two main factors that determine the effectiveness of the airborne or grounded method are the vertical velocity of the system’s center of mass during the final part of the discus delivery and the amount of angular momentum that can be effectively transferred to the discus. There is a strong suggestion that airborne release helps the vertical velocity of the system’s center of mass make a larger contribution to the vertical velocity of the discus.
