Abstract
In this investigation the ortho substituted phenols used were o-cresol, o-chlorophenol, o-hydroxybenzaldehyde, salicylic acid, methyl salicylate, ethyl salicyla te, 8-hydroxyquinoline, o-cyclohexyl phenol, o-octyl phenol, and o-nitrophenol. One member of the group, o-benzylphenol, was not obtainable at the time of the investigation . The bactericidal, germicidal and fungicidal activities of the iodinated ortho substituted phenols were not determined in this investigation due to lack of time. In addition, the investigator has not had experience in bacteriology or mycology and feels that such an investigation should be carried out by someone with experience in that field.
