Description
This black and white photograph features a fossil of a fish within a fish. A Gillicus arcuatus is inside a Xiphactinus molossus. The head of the Xiphactinus faces left and the entire bone structure and fins are visible. The Gillicus arcuatus is underneath the bones in the center. The specimen is embedded in plaster and in a wooden frame. Portheus molossus was described by Cope is a junior synonym of Xiphactinus audax. There is handwritten text at the bottom of the negative.
