Description
The black and white photograph features George F. Sternberg and Barnum Brown standing underneath a pulley system held by a wooden tripod in an open grassy area. Sternberg is the leftmost man. The men are loading a rock sample wrapped in a field jacket into a wooden container. Other samples lie on the ground near them, also in field jackets. In the background, two other men also work. One is holding a field light with an attached camera. The man to the immediate right of him is sitting on a folding chair, working on a device encased in a briefcase-style shell. An antenna extends from the top of the device. The rightmost man is facing the machine, pointing to it. Behind these two men rests a propped canvas tent, more canvas bags lying to the left of the tent’s entrance. A single horse can be seen on the horizon. A broom and tent stake with rope are shown in the lower-right corner. Numbers are written below the photograph.
