Description

This black and white photograph features Sternberg's last camp of 1915-1916 in Alberta, Canada. The scow is on the shore where it will remain over the winter. A boat is in the water near the shore. Two men are in the motor boat that is on the river. There are flags on each end of the motor boat. Outcroppings are in the background. Handwriting is below the photograph. "George F. Sternberg, now working on behalf of the Geological Survey of Canada, operated a scow-based camp on the Red Deer River between Red Deer and the Munson ferry near Drumheller. Sternberg was assisted by Jacey Glen Mayberry (died ca. 1950; Mayberry 1985) from Red Deer, J.A. Smith, George Housten, and Peter A. Bungart (1876–1948). "

35165-16. Our last camp on A. Peterson's home stead. The scow has been pulled out on shore where it will remain all winter. Note how rapidly the brakes [sic] [breaks] descend to the prairie level.
