Description

This black and white photograph features a quarry being opened up on an outcropping in Kneehill County, Alberta, Canada. The quarry has scattered bones throughout, according to Sternberg's inscription. Tools, including a pick axe and other supplies, are seen on the ledge next to the quarry. Handwriting is below the photograph. "George F. Sternberg, now working on behalf of the Geological Survey of Canada, operated a scow-based camp on the Red Deer River between Red Deer and the Munson ferry near Drumheller. Sternberg was assisted by Jacey Glen Mayberry (died ca. 1950; Mayberry 1985) from Red Deer, J.A. Smith, George Housten, and Peter A. Bungart (1876–1948). "
