Description

This black and white photograph features the Sternberg camp along the river. In the foreground, a few tents from Sternberg's camp are visible between the trees. Just past the camp is a dock, and next to the dock, against the riverbank, is a boat. On the opposite side of the river, trees line the riverbank. Beyond these trees, the land is flat and perhaps sandy. A large stratified outcropping rises in the background. Underneath the photo is an inscription written by Sternberg. "George F. Sternberg, now working on behalf of the Geological Survey of Canada, operated a scow-based camp on the Red Deer River between Red Deer and the Munson ferry near Drumheller. Sternberg was assisted by Jacey Glen Mayberry (died ca. 1950; Mayberry 1985) from Red Deer, J.A. Smith, George Housten, and Peter A. Bungart (1876–1948). "
