Description
This black and white photograph features the scow being towed by a motorboat. The back end of Sternberg's motorboat is in the foreground of the photo. Tethered to the motorboat is a scow (or barge). The scow is covered with a white tent. Some crates and barrels are visible at the edge of the scow. Two men are aboard the scow. The man in front is wearing a dark coat, pants, and hat, and is looking at the camera with one hand on his hip. The man at the back of the scow is also looking at the camera and is wearing a lighter colored hat. In the background of the photograph, the land is covered with trees. Handwriting is below the photograph. "George F. Sternberg, now working on behalf of the Geological Survey of Canada, operated a scow-based camp on the Red Deer River between Red Deer and the Munson ferry near Drumheller. Sternberg was assisted by Jacey Glen Mayberry (died ca. 1950; Mayberry 1985) from Red Deer, J.A. Smith, George Housten, and Peter A. Bungart (1876–1948). "
