Description

This black scrapbook page contains six black and white photographs from George Sternberg's photo album. The top and bottom left photos depicts Sternberg's scow being pulled by a motorboat. The top middle photo features a man in a raincoat and matching hat at the wheel of the boat. The bottom middle photo consists of a man in a coat and hat at the front of the same boat. The top right photo was taken from higher up and features the motorboat at the riverbank, and the scow closer to the middle of the river. The bottom right photo is a view of the river and the land on each side. Each of the six photos has an inscription underneath written by Sternberg. "George F. Sternberg, now working on behalf of the Geological Survey of Canada, operated a scow-based camp on the Red Deer River between Red Deer and the Munson ferry near Drumheller. Sternberg was assisted by Jacey Glen Mayberry (died ca. 1950; Mayberry 1985) from Red Deer, J.A. Smith, George Housten, and Peter A. Bungart (1876–1948). "

Our outfit drifting down the river, note the paddles at each end to help to guide it. ; F-33918-16. Nearly the same view as - F33922-16. ; 35090-16. Motor boat [sic] towing scow. ; F-33917-16. Looking up the river about 5 miles below the Blindman. Paskapoo.
