Description

This black and white photograph features two men standing aboard a scow and two men sitting on the shoreline. A dog stands behind the two men on the shore. Trees and bushes are directly behind the men on the shore. A dinghy with a flagpole is seen in front of the scow in the water. The scow is loaded with crates all covered on top with a fabric cover. The scow also has a flagpole. Another dinghy is behind the scow. A row of stripped logs stands upright in the water in the background. More coniferous and deciduous trees can be seen in the background lining the shore. A hand-written inscription in cursive is beneath the photo. "George F. Sternberg, now working on behalf of the Geological Survey of Canada, operated a scow-based camp on the Red Deer River between Red Deer and the Munson ferry near Drumheller. Sternberg was assisted by Jacey Glen Mayberry (died ca. 1950; Mayberry 1985) from Red Deer, J.A. Smith, George Housten, and Peter A. Bungart (1876–1948). "
