Description

This black and white photograph features a white motorboat on a wooden wagon. Two dark-colored horses pull the wagon. Six men escort the wagon down a deeply rutted, muddy dirt road. Two of the men have one hand reaching up to rest against the motorboat's side as they walk. The man at the back of the group carries a hand saw. Three of the men wear dark coats, while the other three wear light work shirts with suspenders. All the men wear hats and dark pants. Two train cars are positioned perpendicularly to the road. Farther in the distance, several square, white houses stand on a hill, framed neatly by trees. Handwriting is below the photograph. "George F. Sternberg, now working on behalf of the Geological Survey of Canada, operated a scow-based camp on the Red Deer River between Red Deer and the Munson ferry near Drumheller. Sternberg was assisted by Jacey Glen Mayberry (died ca. 1950; Mayberry 1985) from Red Deer, J.A. Smith, George Housten, and Peter A. Bungart (1876–1948). "
