Description

This black and white photograph features what George Sternberg refers to as a splendid view of the rocks of the Belly River Formations. The Belly River Formation, a stratigraphic unit from the Late Cretaceous Age, is located in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. These formations stand tall, almost filling the entire frame. The rocks appear to have been carved by wind or water. These outcrops contain stratified layers that are possibly laden with fossils. A small amount of shrubbery grows in a dip at the base of the formation. Behind the looming formation is a clear, cloudless sky. Handwriting is below the photograph.
