Description
This black and white photograph features a portrait of Vera M. Shafer - she is one year old in this picture and is dressed in a light dress with a kitten sitting next to her. According to the 1910 Federal Census, Bessie M. Shafer, 24, lived in Cleveland Township with her farmer husband Leonard N. Shafer, 27, and their two-year-old daughter Vera M. Shafer, most likely the girl pictured with the kitten. By 1914, according to The County Capital of Sept. 24, the Shafers lived in Bentonville, Ark. The 1920 Federal Census of Benton County, Ark., shows them with three more children. Leonard P. and Lucille Mildred, Mrs. Bessie Shafer and Vera M. Shafer ordered the photograph.
