61-MR4-74 National Aeronautics and Space Administration For Immediate Release July 21, 1961 PREFLIGHT PHYSICAL- Project Mercury Astronaut Virgil I. Grissom sits in the medical preparation room, Hangar "S," Cape Canaveral, Fla. As Dr. William K. Douglas, flight surgeon, begins medical check on the morning of July 21, 1961. Liberty Bell 7 was successfully launched by the Mercury-Redstone 4, at 7:20 EST, July 21, 1961. It was the second successful U.S. manned suborbital flight. (NASA Photo)
