61-MR4-106 National Aeronautics and Space Administration For immediate release: July 22, 1961.Liberty Bell 7 rides in the Atlantic ocean with Astronaut Virgil I. Grissom aboard. The long antenna is raised above the capsule for radio signals to home on. The capsule sank minutes later after "Gus" Grissom successfully got out. (NASA Photo)
