Description
This color photograph features Sand Creek Freight Yards. 'South portion of freight yard. The road in the right-hand portion of the picture Southwest Fourteenth. The tank cars (tin cans) in the center are on the Hi Line track. The straight portion of the track is the original road bed of the Old Main Line west out of Newton. It was built in the Spring of 1872. This track was usually full of extra gang cars (bunk, kitchen, foreman, tool commissary and water tank cars) during the winter months. - Mike Hurley."
