The Halstead (Kansas) Historical Society was the recipient of a large local photograph collection from the estate of Edwin Buller. He was a lifelong collector of photographs depicting all aspects of Halstead history beginning in the late 1870’s. These photographs featured people, places, events and businesses.
Edwin E. (nicknamed “Susie”) Buller took great pride in the vast collection of local historic photographs collected during his nearly hundred-year lifespan. Buller (b. October 13, 1912 – d. March 30, 2011) was essentially the town archivist in a personal capacity prior to the creation of the Historical Society in 1988. He filled fifteen binders with approximately 950 unframed photographs as well as 43 oversized photographs in frames that tell the story of every aspect of the community.
The Kansas Humanities Council awarded a grant to the Halstead Historical Society to create this digital collection in 2012. The funds were used to scan, document, digitize and archive the photographs from the Edwin Buller Photograph Collection.
