Abstract
What is known of the baseball career and associated events in the life of John W. “Bud” Fowler (1858–1913), an inductee into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, is described in a chronological set of essays. Some essays are incomplete, reflecting the limited information available. In addition, the absence of essays for months, sometimes nearly entire years, also highlights gaps in what we know about Fowler’s career. These aspects of the essays are intended to help focus additional study by researchers on particular dates and places to fill the gaps and present a fuller understanding of this baseball pioneer’s life. In addition to the essays, tables of data from box scores document Fowler’s on-field performance in games he played in the minor leagues. As with the essays, these datasets are not yet complete. Updates to this summary are anticipated as new information becomes available.
