Description
A black and white photo of an excavation site at the base of a bluff. George Pierce, left, and George F. Sternberg are kneeling across from each other at a mound that has been dug out. Both are holding pick axes and using them to dig into the mound. A shovel stands up in the ground behind Pierce; a pick axe and another shovel are leaning against the mound near Sternberg. Paint brushes, a bag and a coat are also on top of the mound. The wall of the bluff stands in the background.
