Description

A black and white photo of winners Patsy Wilken and Jim Melby of the 1974 Fort Hays Kansas State College Beauty and the Beast Contest. Melby from the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity is wearing frightful face paint around his eyes, a painted-on mustache and fangs and has his eyes slightly rolled back. Melby wears a light-colored cropped T-shirt with his stomach showing and white jeans. His arms are raised menacingly above Wilken. Wilken is seated in front of the man and wears a white V-neck blouse with Bishop sleeves. On top of the blouse, she wears a dark velvet pinafore dress that is buttoned down the middle and a belt around the waist. Wilken wears a thin chain choker necklace around her neck. She is posed facing the camera and smiles with her hands in her lap.
