Description
A black and white photograph at Fort Hays Kansas State College from 1931. Six young college women stand in a field behind Sheridan Hall, which can be seen in the upper left corner. The women hold circular signs with the letters “F,” “H,” “S,” “C,” “3,” and “1” written on them. In order the signs spell “FHSC 31.” They represent Fort Hays State College in 1931, the school’s first year with that name. The signs are stood up from the ground, covering their legs, and their fingers rest on the top. The women wear matching dark-colored shorts, and shiny, dark, loose, sleeveless tops with a v-neck. The top is tucked into the shorts of each woman, and their hair is short or kept tied behind the head. All the women look at the camera except the woman on the far right, who looks to the photographer’s left. One woman, second from the right, wears round, rimmed glasses.
