Description
The black and white photograph was taken in the 1970s from the stands of Lewis Field Stadium. The Fort Hays Kansas State College band and color guard have their backs to the camera and face the band director. The eight color guard members stand on the boundary line of the field with a flag in their right hands and their left hands behind their backs. They each wear hats, boots, and calf-length dresses with two stripes at the bottom. In two semi-circles in front of the color guard, the band holds their instruments in front of them. They wear dark bibbers, shakos, and jackets with long, dark sleeves. The brass section makes up the back semi-circle and the right half of the inner semi-circle. The woodwind section makes up the left half of the inner semi-circle. The center three members play their sousaphones. The center ten members hold their drums. Many student spectators are shown from behind in the foreground of the photo.
