Description

The 1917 Fort Hays Kansas State Normal School Baseball Team Photograph. A black and white photograph shows the 1917 Fort Hays Kansas State Normal School posing for a team photograph. There are two boys sitting in the front row with their legs crossed and holding baseball bats. There are three men behind them in white uniforms and black hats. There are five men in the second row with a glove on one hand and a baseball in the other hand. There are six men in the third row. The third man in the third row wears a white shirt and hat. The fourth man in the third row wears a white shirt and a black jacket. The rest of the men in the photograph wear white baseball uniforms and black hats. The photograph is taken on concrete steps in front of four wooden doors. “Photo 7793. Baseball team, 1917. Seated 1st row: E.H. Felts, Don Meade, Ralph Archer, Paul Oshant, L.J. Mertes. 2nd row: Joe Bissing, Glen Archer, Thomas Mock, Jesse Gatewood, Martin Peterson. 3rd row: John Dewees, Ray Welty, W.G. Speer, Frank Carmen, Unknown, Unknown.” Is written across the bottom of the photograph.
