Description

This black and white photograph features two men digging into a hillside in the badlands. George F. Sternberg, on the right, is holding a shovel. The man on the left is standing at the left edge of the hole. A pick axe is on top of a bag next to him. Loose rocks are in piles behind Sternberg's feet, and a path circles to the left side. A bag is on the rock behind Sternberg. Beyond the rock formations where the men are is a valley leading to a much larger rock formation. A white border surrounds the photograph.
