Description

This black and white photograph features the Sternberg camp on the Red Deer River in Alberta, Canada. The river in the foreground of the photo is rippling and reflecting the large trees on the opposite bank. The trees surround a few white tents. A scow with a tent on it is next to the river bank. On the left side of the photo are large outcroppings. The outcroppings are covered with grass and have some small trees in patches. Underneath the photo is an inscription written by Sternberg. "George F. Sternberg, now working on behalf of the Geological Survey of Canada, operated a scow-based camp on the Red Deer River between Red Deer and the Munson ferry near Drumheller. Sternberg was assisted by Jacey Glen Mayberry (died ca. 1950; Mayberry 1985) from Red Deer, J.A. Smith, George Housten, and Peter A. Bungart (1876–1948). "
