Description

This black and white photograph features a man working on the bottom of a scow. The scow is made of wood, and the top is coated in the pitch that the man is applying. Several wood planks and debris are on the ground in front of the scow. Two planks of wood are leaning against a wooden post behind the scow. Behind the man is a river. In the background, a metal bridge is visible over the river. Underneath the photo is an inscription written by Sternberg. Handwriting is below the photograph. "George F. Sternberg, now working on behalf of the Geological Survey of Canada, operated a scow-based camp on the Red Deer River between Red Deer and the Munson ferry near Drumheller. Sternberg was assisted by Jacey Glen Mayberry (died ca. 1950; Mayberry 1985) from Red Deer, J.A. Smith, George Housten, and Peter A. Bungart (1876–1948). "
