Artist's Statement

In this painting, the common saying "putting all your eggs in one basket" is applied to the complexities of relationships, specifically, a failed one. When a relationship fails and "you've put all your eggs in one basket" a moment of realization can be had about how over-dependant you were on your partner. Relationships, like eggs, are fragile and can fracture at the slightest provocation. The painting expresses these emotions and tensions through the colors of the figures. An intense, bright yellow, like the yolk of an egg, is used extensively in the female figure. Blue is a color commonly associated with feelings of sadness, and is applied liberally in the male figure.
