Artist's Statement
My work brings together art and nature by observing the natural world around me and incorporating it into my designs. By taking an aspect of nature and placing it in my pieces, I essentially trap it in time, a small insignificant part of the world become preserved for generations. A metaphor for how we take the little things for granted, and how the act of taking a photo, painting a picture, or representing something within your work, can take away from the act of appreciating the subject itself, and instead romanticizing the idea of preserving it for others to see. I used brown slip, a natural color to reflect the colors found in dirt, and leaves, etc. Then I scraped away the useless parts, so that the porcelain would come through and show us the plants figure.
