Artist's Statement
This piece represents the artist's life experience as a queer person growing up in the midwest. Under the current presidential administration, LGBTQ+ people have been threatened and mistreated, and are anxious for what their future holds. The golden thread around the bird's beak explores the feeling of being oppressed by wealth and power, the meadowlark symbolizes hope. That hope for the future is being challenged.
