Artist's Statement
This piece is monument to my communication failures; a physical embodiment of conversations that lead nowhere, particularly those over the phone. Standing 6 feet tall, it looms over my 5'5" frame, its imposing presence a constant reminder that I am not being heard. The 15" cube barely fits my body, making me feel as if the walls are closing in on me. The receiver, made of cast iron, is heavy and uncomfortable to hold for long. It is as though I am putting in the work to lift the weight and broach difficult topics, but it is pointless as the cord is not even connected.
