Artist's Statement
Sexualization and masculinity are the modern-day key components of the cowboy movement. The ideal rugged and in control man has been depicted in literature and cinematography, creating a view of how the cowboy should be presented in the media. In reality, the culture is cemented in safety and shared experience, often with each other. In BDSM(Bondage, Discipline, Slave, and Master), the same is true; frequently portrayed as a one-sided and usually abusive combo. The truth is that BDSM is that it’s built on mutual respect and boundaries for each other. With the two cowboys presented in print, both share a hyper-masculine portrayal while being sexualized, but are shown as used and not in control, along with bondage that ties them toghter as equals while still showing off beaten bodies. In front of the whole display is a layout of condoms, adding protection to ideas of how both Cowboys and BDSM are often shown in media.
