Artist's Statement
I made this piece out of cast iron and wood using a sand scratch-block mold. This was my first time creating this type of mold, so my design was initially based on creating a form that would lend itself to the pouring process. I also wanted to showcase how the pouring process can slightly alter any original design, so I kept the feathered edges it created around the edges of my piece. The growth aspect of trees was also a concept I was really drawn to, and something that I felt symbolized my desire to grow as a sculptor.
