Artist's Statement
In Another Life explores the remnants of a home that existed before I did—before loss, before change. This piece draws from my past, but here, I imagine a life that never was, an idealized version of home that only exists in fragments. The black-eyed Susan Vine represents justice, truth, resilience, and motivation, weaving through symbols of memory and longing. Once raised on our farm, the peacock embodies immortality, pride, and self-assurance, while the deer skull speaks to gentleness, innocence, unconditional love, and protection. Yet, these elements appear damaged and distorted—because while it’s tempting to dream of what could have been, this vision is only a fractured illusion. Had life unfolded differently, I wouldn’t have my current perspectives.
