Artist's Statement

In Overgrown, a companion piece to In Another Life, I reflect on the chaos that followed a familial loss—how our home, once full of life, was left empty, overtaken by time and nature. The black-eyed Susan vine, symbolizing justice, truth, resilience, and motivation, weaves through the composition, mirroring my surroundings' slow but inevitable transformation using elements of my home. A ram’s skull stands as a testament to sacrifice and achievement, while the hawk—a symbol of courage, self-awareness, truth, and wisdom—sits at the bottom of the composition, offering both perspective and intuition. This piece mediates change, loss, and the unexpected ways nature fills the spaces we leave behind.
