Artist's Statement

Eye of the Storm is a sculptural ceramic lamp that captures the restless spirit of wind—its turbulence, grace, and power—all held in a moment of stillness. Growing up in the open landscapes of central Kansas, this piece was influenced by the rolling winds, sweeping storms, and wide skies. The carved, swirling forms in the ceramic base are drawn from the motion of storm systems, echoing the spirals and surges found in nature. Yet at the center of the chaos, there is calm—the quiet core that gives the piece its name

Clay gives me a way to translate those energies into form. The carving is raw and expressive, while the light offers a steady, comforting presence. Together, form and light create a space where tension and tranquility meet. In Eye of the Storm, I’m exploring how something as intangible as wind can be felt, held, and remembered.
