Is the Use of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy Effective in Decreasing Pain and Improving Function of Patients with Plantar Fasciitis?

Cody Moon, Fort Hays State University

Description

This systematic review evaluates several studies that have examined the use of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) on plantar fasciitis. ESWT is a treatment option with very little evidence supporting its use. ESWT uses sound waves in the area where it is applied to create an environment of increased pressure to begin the body’s internal response against unordinary stimuli.
