Back Shops. Newton Santa Fe Yards. "Backshops (Machine Shops) in Newton, Kansas. 1897. Moved from Nickerson to Newton. Looking east from the west end. The floor was wooden, cemented in 1940's. Left front: drill press . . . . Left rear: wheel lathe. Right: metal lathe . .... Rods hanging from ceiling were used to slip belts from idlers to machine pulley." Information from Tony Fey.
