Let's Talk About Domestic Violence
Abstract
This panel brings together leading scholars Dr. April N. Terry, Dr. Tamara J. Lynn, and Dr. Christy Craig in a moderated discussion led by Dr. Ziwei Qi to examine the complex realities of domestic violence in rural communities. Drawing from research, fieldwork, and practitioner engagement, the panel explores how geographic isolation, limited resources, cultural stigma, and systemic barriers shape the experiences of survivors and service providers in rural settings. The conversation highlights the intersectionality of rurality, gender, justice-involvement, and poverty, offering trauma-informed and community-anchored strategies for prevention, intervention, and policy reform. Emphasis is placed on survivor-centered responses, rural-specific safety planning, and the importance of cross-sector collaboration.
